1. Preamble
A good reputation is the foundation of every sport. In order to develop and enhance the reputation, the image, and the dignity of STRONGMAN sports and its athletes, the annual strongman competition, The F.A.S.C. has adopted the following Athlete’s Code of Conduct, and it shall be binding on all F.A.S.C. athletes.

2. General Address to Athletes
Strongman competition and training is a pleasure and a privilege, and epitomises the Olympic principle of joy through effort. Athletes occupy a position of trust in that they are significant role models to their peers and other members of the sporting community as well as the community in general. A high standard of conduct before, during and after STRONGMAN competition is required of any athlete who WILLINGLY PARTICIPATES in F.A.S.C Events.
An athlete’s behaviour both on and off the event arena must be consistent with the principles of good Sportsmanship. |
3. Code of Conduct - General
- Will always give his or her best performance
- Will consistently display high personal standards and project a favourable image of their sport
- Will always be gracious and conduct himself/herself in a sportsmanlike manner, whether in victory or defeat, and in a way that inspires fellow competitors and future competitors to attain the highest level of sportsmanship
- Will always respect, other competitors, spectators, organizers, officials and referees, and refrain from public criticism of such
- Will participate in a manner that ensures the safety of athletes, officials and spectators
- Will direct comments or criticism at the performance rather than the individual
- Will not engage in violent or abusive conduct whether verbal or physical or in sexual harassment or abuse of any kind.
- Will always respect the property of others, whether it is private property or public property
- Will not engage in discriminatory conduct
- Will be aware of the role sport plays in all athletes lives and respect the pressures that may be placed on yourself and other athletes as you strive to balance physical, mental, emotional and spiritual elements of your lives
- Will never advocate or condone the use of drugs or other banned performance enhancing substances.
- Will uphold the rules of the sport, the spirit of such rules and encourage other athletes to do the same
- Will comply with the rules, regulations, policies and decisions of the Federation of Australian Strength Competitors (F.A.S.C.), and will at all times act as exemplary ambassadors for the sport of STRONGMAN.
4. Code of Conduct – Specific
- An athlete must never threaten any person before, after, or during any competition in which s/he is competing, including by using body language, facial expressions, orally, or in writing.
- An athlete will not at any time engage in demonstrations of rage and anger towards other competitors, spectators, officials or equipment such that may frighten, offend or intimidate other competitors, spectators or officials. Such behaviour will result in immediate suspension from further competition
- An athlete must not publicly question an adjudicator’s judgment, honesty or good faith, except in writing addressed in good faith to authorities of competent jurisdiction
- An athlete must not publicly question an adjudicator’s decision. Should a competitor wish to dispute the referee’s decision s/he is to do so in a civil, professional and sportsmanlike manner.
- An athlete must compete at competitions in which s/he has registered to compete, or else give reasonable prior notice in writing that s/he will not compete
- An athlete must arrive on time at the competition venue in reasonable physical and mental condition
5. Complaints.
Complaints will be received, reviewed and decided by an official of the F.A.S.C. responsible to deal with the matter.
Any urgent complaints by athletes about adjudicators or any other aspect of a competition must be addressed only to the head adjudicator of the day.
Any complaint, dispute, or issue raised by any competitor will be given full and serious consideration and dealt with based on the facts, and by applying the relevant governing competition Rules, and not on subjective grounds.
It is unfair, unsportsmanlike, and unacceptable to make an oral complaint (unless it is urgent and addressed to the head adjudicator of the day), or to circulate anonymous complaints.
6. Sanctions
Any athlete, whose conduct is considered to be contrary to this Code, is subject to penalties, including but not limited to one or more of the following penalties:
- An order for compensation (if property is damaged or destroyed and the costs should be reimbursed);
- Disqualification from a Competition; a temporary suspension from the right to compete;
- And in case of recurrent or very serious misconduct a permanent suspension from the right to compete.
